Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn here at The Book Date.
Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels or anything in those genres – join them.

Well the end of February. For me that means ordering wood for the fire in winter. Our weather seems to have cooled although I am not sure if that is actually autumn setting in or just a blip.

I finished my slow and steady read – The Winners – it was so good I think I need a day or so in-between before I start my next one.

What I read last week:

The first two of these had been ongoing and happened to finish this week.  No River Too Wide was my audiobook and a reread. Stood up to a reread and loved it.  The Winners. Totally great.  Sweet Laurel Falls was my warm and comfy read and Johanna Porter was a review book.

What I am reading now:

Just starting all these.

  1. Yes! I understand about needing some space between fabulous books! I’ve been tempted to annotate Backman’s books as they are filled with captivating and thought provoking content. Carrie Soto is on my TBR. Looking forward to your review. Happy reading!

  3. We are looking for signs of spring here! Though it wasn’t much of a winter here in Delaware – no snow at all and according to the newspaper not nearly enough rain.

    So glad The Winners was a winner for you! After reading Daisy Jones and the Six in December, I definitely want to read more Taylor Jenkins Reid now. I was a HUGE Judy Blume fan as a kid and have still not read In the Unlikely Event, so thanks for the reminder!

  4. You’re on roll with good books! I’ve read a few earlier books in the Balogh series. I need to get back to it. Great to hear you loved the Backman. I read the first in the trilogy but not the second. Do you think I need to before reading The Winners?

    1. I’d read the second one Mary, I read it as a slow and steady as I did The Winners. So a little every day. I guess you could get away with the second not being read but I’d think take your time and if you are going to read The Winners do read Us Against You.

  7. I’ve had that Judy Blume book on my TBR for a while! I didn’t know that Vicki Delaney and Eva Gates were the same author. Why a pen name, I wonder.
    We are still in a cold snap with snow in the forecast but once we’re into March, people in New England will be pulling out their shorts and t-shirts to be ready for the first day it’s sunny and 50 degrees F!

    1. I have only read a little by her. Carrie Soto won’t be a fave of mine I think. Have heard good things about Daisy Jones. But I am not a music kind of person so will leave it.

  9. I am hoping not to need wood fires too much longer. Spring can’t come soon enough.

    Love your book list this week. I have By Book or By Crook because it is set in NC where we vacation. I still need to read it. Judy Blume is always a good read. Hope you have a nice week.

  11. I wish I was waiting for autumn here. We’re going into spring which I’m fine with but then comes summer and I’m just not ready for it. I’m so bad with heat and I live in Belgium so compared to other countries it doesn’t get that hot here but these past summers haven’t been very fun. Please send cool weather, thanks. Haha

    1. Stephanie I am not a summer fan really, although I do like sunny days!! Was just hearing about water shortage in France and Belgium is not so far from them. Hope you guys are okay for water.

  13. I’ve read some of the books that Vicki Delaney has written under her own name, but I haven’t made it to this series she wrote as Eva Gates yet. I bet you’ll life it, however.

  14. I listened to No River Too Wide last year and it was such a reminder of just how much I love Emilie Richards’ books. You’ve got a Mary Balogh! I used to read all her books when they came out but it has been awhile. I’m really looking forward to picking up another book by her. I also really enjoy that Eva Gates series. Eva Gates and Vicki Delany are the same person if you’ve read any of her. Have a great week!

    1. Oh I didn’t know about the Vicki D and Eva G being same person and I like the Vicki D books. I must have picked up about the lighthouse series from you. My cosy reader guru! Because the Mary Balogh book was free to those with an Audible sub I chose them while they are free listening! Felt like time for an historical.

  21. I always enjoy autumn but it is sad to see summer go. Right now it’s 35 here (a little over one C) so… freezing! We did get some sun today though. Hope you are doing great!!!!!
