It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

badge
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organise yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment and er… add to your groaning TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn here at The Book Date.
Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels or anything in those genres – join them.

Well here is the last Monday in July!!!  My reading has slowed for various reasons. I look at the pile of new books to read and the pile of library books and sort of despair! I’ll never get to them all. So hard accepting my human limitations for not being able to accomplish all I want to read.

I had a good week, some bad and some good weather. Some good accomplishments in quilting and another list made of what I want to do this week! A visit to a football game of Mr. Seven whose skills are sure developing, a visit with a friend, walks in the morning and one yesterday on the beach. Oh and of course a bit of reading fitted in. You know – same old, same old but always new!

We closed our travel bubble with Australia ( meant no quarantine either side of the Tasman) but now that Covid has spread in some States in Aussie, our PM has closed borders for 8 weeks. I know my sister will be disappointed because her daughter and two young sons were coming over to NZ for some time with her in August. Oh! And I got my first Covid vaccine – I was getting really annoyed that they are so slow rolling it out, but then I got a text to make an appointment – same day I got one. Happy. Second one mid August. We are only using Pfizer at the moment.

What I read last week:

My sister had lent this to me, and having held it for awhile I felt I ought to read it! I enjoyed it, although I thought a bit of the plot towards the end in France was a bit over the top. Still it was a page turner.

I then moved onto Rachel to the Rescue. This had a great plot idea and I liked the character of Rachel. However I can’t quite pinpoint why I didn’t jell with this book, and it was a DNF. I think it was the tone or chirpy kind of rom com. I have been tripped by other books that are similar. Peculiar to me I think as many others have enjoyed such books.

What I am reading now:

I am really loving this. It’s one of those books I read every line. There are books I skip paragraphs but with books like this, not a word is left out!  And that’s odd because it sort of is romantic comedy but it has an entirely different writing style that just hooks me in.

When Stars Collide

Listening still to the Rhys Bowen The Twelve Clues of Christmas and enjoying it very much. Have some non – fiction on the go too, which is very slow as I look up meanings of words and write notes!!  The Spiritual Dimension of the Enneagram – Sandra Maitri.

Up next:

I have this one from the library, due 11th August but I can’t renew as there is someone with it on reserve. So this will be next. Besides I have the next one from NetGalley and I think it publishes very soon. I won’t read it by its publishing date but I need to be moving forward!

  1. Oh Kathryn, you throw the best party! Such interesting guests! I’ve Rachel to the Rescue on my list to read, so we’ll see. The Firekeeper’s Daughter just came in from the library, so it’s next. Congratulations on your first vaccine! Yes, we are starting to wear masks again in the US. Eeeesh….is there an end in sight?

    1. Mia if only everyone that is able would be vaccinated. There seems to be no end in sight and even the vaccine is not totally there yet in terms of wiping out the virus.

  2. Good news about your vaccine – I still can’t believe NZ is so far behind on that after being held up as the best in managing the pandemic! I imagine it’s due to having trouble getting enough supply. And sorry to hear the borders closing again will keep some family members away. We are just starting to reunite with distant family here.

Sounds like some nice walks, visits, quilting, and books last week! We’ve been struggling with lots of crises (car repairs, stuff with my FIL, etc.) so “same old, same old” sounds rather nice! Glad you enjoy your life!

Hope you enjoy your books this week, too, and get some good weather! Thanks for hosting the linkup –

  3. Sounds like you’ve had a fun week! Yay on getting your first vaccine. I got Pfizer too (my husband got Moderna so we were comparing side effects) and it went pretty well. I didn’t feel fabulous after the 2nd one but all it took was a day resting and I felt back to feeling 100% the next day. The next Verity Kent book comes out at the end of August so you’ve got a little bit of time! Have a great week!

  4. Haha, I can relate to your book struggle. I’ve been too busy to read much this summer, but that hasn’t stopped me from buying books. Congrats on getting vaccinated. I got the Pfizer shots back in April and my side effects weren’t too bad. Have a great week!

  5. Anna Lee Huber’s mysteries are some of my favorites, and I recently read A Pretty Deceit. I like the cover of Hothouse Flowers – sorry it didn’t quite live up to what you had hoped.

  6. Congrats on the vaccine! It’s sad how slow some countries have been but it’s nice to see they’re starting to roll out more now. Sounds like you had a nice week, overall. ❤

  7. I had the Pfizer too, I was sick a couple of days after 2nd shot but after that nada. NZ is smart for staying on top of Covid, the US we’re too busy arguing about it and in the mean time God is up there just shaking her head. You have a good week Kathryn

  8. I’m glad you were able to get your first Covid shot but sorry to hear about your new lockdown. My reading is staying about the same though less of it is done while walking since we are in the middle of a heat wave. I’ve been enjoying that Anna Lee Huber series. Thanks for hosting.

  9. In my area covid cases are up but hospitalizations are not – which is good. I’m glad you were able to get your first shot. Stay well, Kathryn, and enjoy your reading this week. I’ve enjoyed every SEP book I’ve read!

  10. I’m glad your PM is more sensible than ours, I’m really annoyed by the lax handling of the Delta outbreak in NSW.
Roll out here is still for only 40’s.+ I get my 2nd dose of Phizer on Sunday

Wishing you a great reading week

  12. My reading has slowed down, too. So much to do and so little time. I am sorry to hear your sister won’t be able to see her family. I keep praying this COVID thing will end one day.

I have The Twelve Clues of Christmas in a box somewhere if I ever find the time for it. When Stars Collide looks good too.

Hope you have a nice week.
