It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

badge
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organise yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment and er… add to your groaning TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn here at The Book Date.
Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels or anything in those genres – join them.

How are you all doing? The year is sure to sliding now to a quick end. I saw a post today by Sheila from Book Journey for First Book of the Year. I love that link up. I now recognise quite a few faces that participate.  If you haven’t participated before think about it for 2021.

I know so many of you are coping with restrictions of Covid. We are so fortunate as at the moment we have no community transmission so life is cautiously normal! We had a lovely family Christmas gathering on Saturday. It was so gorgeous to see the wee second cousins gathering and playing together and … getting into mischief together. They only meet up once a year but they are a tight team! They made me chuckle often.

  1. Wonderful you are getting back to some type of normal. Happy to hear about the Christmas get together.

  2. So glad to hear life is getting somewhat back to normal and that you were able to have a Christmas gathering! It gives me hope that a cautious normal might be possible again. We are going to stay under extra strict lockdown for the foreseeable future regardless of what the orders are around us. I really enjoy that Allison Brook series! I hope it’s great on audio. Hope you’re having a great week.

    1. Katherine staying under strict lockdown for you is really essential isn’t it, especially with Will. Oh I am so happy to hear you like the Allison Brook series, I turn it on for about 30-45 minutes before I fall asleep, my bedtime reading!

  3. I read the Trevor Noah, but I bet it’s even better as an audio!

My dear friend who lives in Wellington passed away a few weeks ago, and the family managed to live stream the funeral for her many internet friends. It was so amazing to see people hugging and comforting each other; I was so glad that her family could be with their community.

    1. Oh so happy you could join in through the live stream, and yes at the moment that’s how it is for us. I do keep up to date with what is going on in the US and Europe. And reading of people’s experiences of Covid. Makes it very real and scary. It’s a virus that is very tricky.

  4. Oh, Kathryn, you are so very fortunate to live where you do! Family gatherings are a distant memory for us. We even had to cancel just the 4 of us getting together this weekend, as my husband wasn’t feeling well and our son was concerned he might have been exposed. And it is SO difficult to get tested! Just not enough tests and testing facilities to go around. Your family gathering sounds lovely – I’m so happy for you to be able to do that!

I hope you’re enjoying Born a Crime – glad to see you are listening to it on audio. It is SO amazing read by Noah himself! Funny, moving, powerful – enjoy!

Enjoy all of your books this week and thanks for hosting the linkup!

    1. Yes I really recognise how fortunate we are here. I keep up with what is going on in other countries. So worrying for all. Born a Crime is good so far, somewhat horrifying in places.

  5. How fun to have an extended family celebration. It has been a long time since we were able but I know it will happen again in 2021. I’m need to decide on my first book – something fun, I think.

  6. I’m glad to hear that things are normal somewhere. Minnesota is hunkering down to combat a growing Covid threat and I’m staying home as much as possible. Thanks for hosting!

  8. Kathryn great post. For me personally 2020 can’t end quick enough and not just because of Covid but yes we are feeling rather isolated because of the virus but our daughter is quickly losing her battle with cancer and we also feel very helpless there. xo

    1. Oh my gosh Debbie I didn’t realise about your daughter, for some reason that escaped me. That is so difficult and yes the helplessness of it all is so hard. You’ve had so much to deal with.

  9. So glad you had a chance to get together. This time of year really is about family and helping those in need.

I didn’t participate in First Book of the Year last year. I need to check it out.

Great books on your list this week. Boone seems like a nice read. Thanks for sharing.

  10. We’re in a similar position re Covid so our Christmas celebrations will be as normal too, lunch with my parents at the beach if the weather cooperates.
I see you found a cozy series, it looks like a fun one

Wishing you a great reading week

  11. I too am glad that your country has done well. I think Florida has done fairly well although my hubby remains at risk as too many people locally are not being careful enough.
I have Born a Crime to listen to and an Emily March title. I loved the cover of that Overdue book.
I have two books I am looking at for First Book. 🙂
I hope you enjoy all of your current reading!

  12. Glad you had a wonderful Christmas gathering! That’s so nice when family gets together, especially when for some of them it’s a once a year thing. I am so impressed with how New Zealand has handled Covid.

  13. I am happy that your country has done so well throughout this Pandemic! My granddaughter is there, as you know, and she plans to keep staying for a while longer.

I got my e-mail for First Book of the Year, and in anticipation of it, had already received the book I ordered.

Enjoy your week and your books.

  14. I’m glad your area has handled covid so well and you were able to gather with your family! In California, we are going back into lockdown tonight for at least 3 weeks.

I haven’t read Born a Crime but I’ve heard it’s great so it’s in my list.

    Enjoy your week!
