It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

badge
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organise yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment and er… add to your groaning TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn here at The Book Date.
Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels or anything in those genres – join them.

And another week rolls by and into the last week of July! Eek it was cold this morning – heavy frost. I love that but Brrr! I got up a little late!  Soon the sun will be heating me up and I can turn the Heat Pump off.

I enjoyed my reading mostly this week. One listening thing that caught my attention was Gretchen Rubin’s podcast of Happier where she and Elizabeth, her sister, interviewed Ann Patchett about The Dutch House. It was a great interview and I loved how the author spoke. I might listen to The Dutch House I think at some point. Oh and they mention Trevor Noah who I really love too.

I shared five books this week with older characters and Deb Nance shared with me a list on Goodreads  she has made and so I share it here as a place for me to keep it and also if you like books like that you might like to browse it.

What I read last week:

I also finished this audiobook – set in both the USA and Kenya. It was very good. I see some reviews where they thought the narrator was poor. I thought they were both excellent and carried me away into the story.

What I am reading now:

From the Library

And I’ve also started listening to two audiobooks – one for walking and one in the house!

Up next:

I seem to have library books coming in at a very speedy rate so I think it may need to be this one as it is due back soon and someone else has it reserved.

  1. We’re in the middle of a heat wave here on the U.S. East Coast! I like how you read the Jenny Colgan and Susan Mallery together — one with winter snow and the other, summer sand!

  2. I enjoy the Happier podcast, too, though I’ve fallen behind. That’s good, I guess, because I haven’t finished The Dutch House yet! I highly recommend the audio, read by Tom Hanks – I;m really enjoying it.

So weird to think of it getting cold there when it’s so hot here right now!

Sounds like a good reading week for you – hope you enjoy another one! And thanks for hosting

    1. I loved the audio of The Dutch House, too! At the very beginning, I wasn’t sure, because I kept hearing Tom Hanks as Tom Hanks, but then I got deeper into the story and forgot it was him.

  3. Thank you for hosting this wonderful party! I’m enjoying reading again and loving the chance to connect with other readers! I did find a podcast, perhaps on your blog or someone on the linky party, that is fun: Book Cougars! Take good care!

  4. Everyone I know who has read Dutch House loves it. I haven’t read that one but I’ve enjoyed the two books of hers that I have read, Bel Canto and State of Wonder. Bel Canto was fantastic on audio. Do you know Patchett owns a bookstore? It’s called Parnassus Books and it’s in Nashville, Tennessee. It was going out of business and she decided to buy it and save it. I just had to go when my husband and I visited the city. While we were there, we had a celebrity sighting! Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman walked in and started browsing! I almost fell over in shock! We left them alone, of course, and didn’t even try to sneak a picture. Who wants to be bothered when you’re browsing a bookstore? I know I wouldn’t! Enjoy your week!

    1. Oh I love that story of the visit to the book store and the sighting! They must be readers too! Yes Patchett mentions about the book store on the podcast although I had vaguely heard it before.

  5. I will take some of that cold. We are in the middle of a heat wave. It will be 98 today.

I haven’t listened to a podcast in ages, but just subscribed to a few. What a great cover on The Sun Sister. Maybe One Day sounds good.

Hope you have a nice week.

  6. I love new podcasts and have been meaning to try the Rubin one. Problem is finding enough time, right? However, they are perfect for multitasking. Enjoy your reading this week, Kathryn!

  7. I always say I’m going to find out more about podcasts. I’ve never heard the Gretchen Rubin podcast, and I think I would like it. I listened to Dutch House as an audiobook. It was recommended to me. Tom Hanks reads the book. Wonderful.

  8. I will go back and look for the books with those older characters. I did a blog post only yesterday on tropes I’d like to see more of and mature characters was one of my choices. I’m not sure if it is technically a trope but it is so nice when I read about a main character who is closer to my own age.
    Have a great reading/listening week!

  9. Maybe I can send a little heat your way since we’re having a heat wave here. 🙂 I wouldn’t mind a little cool off!

Hope you have a wonderful week ahead- be well!

  10. I have put some of my TBR books, some with older characters, on my nightstand. I am hoping to read more print books in the upcoming weeks.

Feeling cold weather sounds good right now, especially with triple digits ahead this week.

Enjoy your week, and stay safe.
