It’s Monday! What are you Reading this Easter?

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organise yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment and er… add to your groaning TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn here at The Book Date.
Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels or anything in those genres – join them.

Hope you all had a great Easter break. We had a couple of gorgeous days Friday and Saturday and then Sunday…. very wet!  But I had a delicious dark chocolate egg that was very yummy to chase away the wet!

In this last week I got out finally and did a small bit of gardening. I also visited a friend in hospital and got horribly lost on the way, in a very hilly area and narrow roads and even a one way that you guessed it, I might have had to turn around on! The problem was I discovered later that right at the beginning I took a wrong turn.  Needless to say I did arrive at my destination, but somewhat stressed!

On Thursday it was the birthday of my sister who passed away last year. So a number of us gathered at the cemetery in the sunshine and toasted her with a small glass of wine and some memories. Then we gathered at the home of one of my other sisters for dinner. I have to say it was rather special.

I also read and worked on a second quilt for the first responders of the Christchurch shootings. And of course did some reading!

What I read last week:

The Things We Do For Love from my TBR was a Kristin Hannah worthy story that I really enjoyed. 183 Times a Year was about a mother and two teens and the rest of the family. I read it as a humour/funny challenge book…. but my sense of humour is different I guess. Still I will count it!  This was a UK book, I think as a New Zealander I might have a different kind of sense of humour!

One I bought last year from a local bookshop, I think the author is Australian. My excuse for buying – well it had a bookcase on the cover!

  1. I like how you honored your sister. I’m sure she was smiling from above. I do like a good, dark chocolate piece of candy. We devoured a box of See’s Nuts & Chews the husband had ordered from the tween’s fundraiser. We had had marshmallow or caramel-marshmallow eggs from them too that I had picked out.

  3. Glad you had a nice Easter weekend (including good dark chocolate – that’s key!). What a wonderful way to celebrate your sister’s birthday – it sounds lovely.

    I haven’t read that Kristen Hannah book yet, though I enjoyed (aka sobbed 3 times during) Firefly Lane. And humor is a tough thing to match sometimes, though I usually like British humor.

    1. well that’s not what I wanted to post!

      I swear I wrote that I wanted to read this it looks good and I normally really like her books but I’ll have to check with my friend to conduct the cry test. I’ve been known to finish one of her books sobbing and that’s not always a good thing.

  6. I once spent a field trip with an elementary school circling our destination but never arriving, until time ran out and we had to get the kids back. Not one of my most successful outings!

    Was the Jordan book meant to be funny but not making you laugh, or did you giggle all the way through before realize the author meant to write a serious drama or romance?

    1. As a retired teacher I appreciate that experience of never making it to the destination with a group of students. Disappointment plus. The book was recommended as funny by another reader but just didn’t work that way for me.

  8. Happy Monday Kathryn. That was a nice way to remember your sister and keep her close in your thoughts. The Easter weekend here was gorgeous and we celebrated my youngest daughter’s birthday too with an Easter Egg hunt for her and her husband. It was really fun watching these adults run around hunting eggs. A Blast.

  10. What a nice way to remember your sister. I imagine that you miss her very much. The quilts will give comfort for others. I still find it hard to believe that you had a shooter in New Zealand. It was during the last month I taught that a school shooter killed his fellow students at a high school just a short distance from my town. I feel so much sadness when I think about that and the shooting in your country.

  11. I’m glad you had a mostly good Easter. What a lovely way to remember your sister- I’m so sorry for your loss. A Month of Sundays has a fabulous cover and I’d definitely give that a second look!

  16. Getting lost can be frustrating and scary. I am glad you arrived safely.
    That sounds like a special way to honor/remember your sister.
