Oh my, welcome to December! We began it with a large extended family gathering for Christmas for family far and near. It was perfect and my lovely niece hosted nicely. We all bring a dish but still, its work for the person whose place it is at. So many new young faces here since last year.
One of my sisters had made us a Christmas boot little stocking from my Dad’s shirts. He died September 2017. A really lovely thought. I got her to make one for our young 5 year old grand nephew as he was close to his great grandad – Poppa. This morning his mother said he woke up and said
“Where is my booty I want to talk to Poppa”
“Hello Poppa, I’m sorry you died…. I want to sing a song for you”.
We have been experiencing summer! Do I complain or celebrate… or a bit of both!
What I read last week:
Three books – all very satisfying reading. Harry’s Trees was one I heard about on the What Should I Read Next podcast. Was well worth reading. A Thousand Roads Home was my favourite for November and Fatal Invasion was #13 in a romantic series that is the best!

OMG, Kathryn! I LOVE the mini stocking made from your dad’s shirt! What a great idea 🙂 And your grand nephew is so adorable. After my dad died, my step-mom got a pillow made by one of her daughters from one of my dad’s shirts – I hugged it when i was visiting last week! I have a few of my dad’s shirts in my closet – they are big on me, but I love wearing them and thinking of him.
I have Harry’s Trees lined up on my audio list for this month! And I would love to read Little Fires Eeverywhere.

This little stocking is a lovely idea. Some of my cousins took their mother’s favourite plaid shirt, cut it into strips and laminated them. Aunty Joyce was a voracious reader and these bookmarks were handed out at her service. I use mine all the time.

What a lovely idea of making the stocking from one of your dad’s shirts! Sounds like you had a nice time at the family gathering. We finally got our first big dump of snow last week, and it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

The stockings your sister made are treasures. I have my dad’s flannel shirts and I was thinking of making a quilt out of them. If I stitch them together my Amish friend will quilt them for me. It’s so tempting!

Patty go for it with the quilt. My sister also made a lap quilt for one of my brothers out of his brown shirts. I was so proud of her, and so happy she loves doing those kind of things too.

A little bit of both, I should think. Here we are experiencing winter: cold nights and rain. Lovely lovely rain. It does mean mudslides for the burn areas but the fires themselves are finally contained and being put out.

Yes I thought my sister was very clever in her idea to do it. Something to treasure for a long time and remember Dad each time it is put on the tree.
