It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? May 1st 2017

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It’s a great post to organise yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment, and er… add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye’s Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels, anything in the world of kidlit – join them!

Well a brand new month and a brand new week!  The start of winter for us and we have a little tickle up from the south and the Antarctic to usher it in.  Not too bad though. Sun is shining through the rain.
I had a good week of reading, sewing and general mucking around. I went to a quilt show on Saturday full of totally gorgeous quilts. Today I turn my calendar and on the May page is a quilt pillow, mug of tea and books – perfect, so bodes well for May.
Apart from reading I am watching Season Three of A Place to Call Home, a wonderful Australian production that I love and I am also viewing Grey’s Anatomy but we are a season behind, I see little previews on Facebook of the present season in the USA!
Later today I go to collect my new glasses, looking forward to them.

What I read last week:

A good balance from various shelves this week!!

From my recently purchased shelf the last in the Survivor series.  Enjoyed it.

From the TBR shelf
Typical Jill Mansell and again enjoyed it.  Had a character with cystic fibrosis.

From the audiobook shelf
A fabulous book, my rave rather than review will be up in a day or two. Historical fiction set in 1940 in small village in Southern England.

What I am reading at present:

From my recently purchased shelf. It is the first in a series, so reading it to see if I want to continue with the series. Steampunk I think.

  1. all new to me authors except for my fave and yours Emilie Richards. I'm just trying to get through all my contract reviews because I'll be leaving in 15 days for my daughter's Mexico destination wedding!!!!! 🙂
    Great post Kathryn

  2. Thanks for reminding me to look for The Chilbury Ladies' Choir on audio and put a hold on it! Glad to know it's that good! We're looking ahead to summer here, instead of winter, but the weather is NOT cooperating. (I don't really mind having cool weather in the spring and summer — better for reading – but I complain because everyone else does!)

  3. I can't wait to read your rave of The Chilbury Ladies' Choir; it already looks/sounds fantastic just from what you wrote here. ^_^
I feel your foreign TV show pain! Sometimes it's a long, hard wait for BBC shows over here in the states. 😦

  4. I'm not really a fan of steampunk, but I have read The Iron Duke and actually enjoyed it. I like the cover of the Mansell book. Spring has sprung here and were expecting a beautiful week! I changed my winter tires yesterdays and have the summer ones on. Hope I didn't jinx myself by doing that! Have a great week!

  5. Sounds like a good week for you. It still seems so strange to me when my friends in Australia talk about winter starting when it is just getting hot here and everything is in bloom!

My husband and I have watched every season of Grey's Anatomy! Sorry you are a season behind there but at least you can get it. I looked up A Place To Call Home, and it looks like a great show. Looks like we can watch it in the US on Acorn TV but that's not something we subscribe to.

Enjoy your week and your books!

  6. That's a great selection you had this week. How in awe you must have been at seeing so many, intricate quilts. You're starting up winter and our spring is getting warmer. We have 80's this week before some rain next week.

  7. Unbelievable that it is May already. Going way too fast.

Brrrr on winter…we are gearing up for spring and my favorite season, summer. 🙂

Looks like a good reading week. Fun photo on your calendar.

Nice to hear The Chilbury Ladies Choir was good…I have seen it everywhere. Good to know. I will see if my library has it on audio. I have been listening to audios while I talk my walk and work around the house.

    Love the cover on Bridges.

    Have a terrific week, Kathryn.

  8. It sounds like a lovely week, weather wise not too bad either, though winter is on its way!
I loved your review of Talk of the Town – I will most probably buy myself a copy as I love Rachael's work.
I also have a copy of the Jill Mansell book, I must dust it off the TBR pile and give it a go.
    Have a great week!

  9. I've heard such great things about the Mary Balough series! That Jill Mansell cover is so pretty! It's been awhile since I've read one of her books.

    Have a great week!

  10. Summer's around the corner for us. Yesterday was our first genuinely hot day. I'm going to miss all the rain we've had.

Saturday was my the junior to cadette bridging ceremony in San Francisco. My daughter and I are sore and sunburnt from our adventure but we had fun. Come see what I'm reading.

  11. Glad to hear you had a good week and that May looks promising.
I need to update my Balogh list as I am a few years behind with only hit and miss. I was up to date with more current titles until 2012. Guess I have been too busy with review titles to keep up with my favs.
I enjoy Mansell too. I will be picking the Ladies Choir up at Audible – maybe this months credits.
Have a good week and Happy Reading!

  12. Looks like you had a good reading week. I heard Jill Mansell is a good author. Another author for me to look out for!

That is cool that you are watching Grey Anatomy too, I am well more behind than you are though.

  13. I'm happy for May and hope that it means an end to all the rain we've been getting! It's been raining a lot the last two weeks. But we have had a nice sunny day interspersed here and there! Hope your weather is mild as you move into winter…

That Wendy Wax book sure looks summery! Hope your reads are good this week.

  14. Wow, both you and Mary from Bookfan have loved listening to The Chilbury Ladies' Choir. I'm keeping my eye out for that one the next time I'm looking for a good audio to listen to.

  15. I am a loyal fan to Grey's Anatomy. We are hoping that spring will finally arrive here and stick around. The warm to cold weather is wearing me out. Always like Jill Mansell's books. Hope this is a great week for you.
